We all want to work with people we enjoy interacting with.
As an online entrepreneur I want people reading my articles and buying my products who are going to take action and are self-starters.
The question remains, how in the world can we define, identify, and find our target market?
This article is going to help you with all 3 by asking and helping you answer 3 specific questions.
Question #1: Who Is Your Target Market?
When you ask yourself this question, try not to be vague like:
“My target market is women ages 26-36 who make $50,000 a year.”
” I want to target men 35-45 who want to lose weight.”
Straight demographics doesn’t provide you with enough juicy information about the individual.
The internet has changed how we look at demographics.
To create hyper-targeted messages, you have to know your target market inside and out. What keeps them up at night and what wakes them up early in the morning.
You need to go WAY beyond typical, straight demographics when answering question #1.
Question #2: Where Is Your Target Market Hanging Out?
Your target market is made up of real people, so you need to look at a few things like:
- Actions or lack of actions
Most importantly, you need to know where they hang out online. Where do they spend their time? What blogs are they reading? What Facebook groups are they a part of?
Answering these questions can take some time and research on your part, but it’s worth taking as much times as you need to develop a crystal clear picture of where your ideal clients are directing their attention.
Question #3: How Can You Get A Customer To Leave Where They Hang out And Check Out Your Website?
If you’re in the middle of a debate on Politico.com it’s going to take something unique to get you to leave that site and look at something else, right?
Maybe that’s not the best example if you’re like me and try to avoid politics, but you have to figure out what offering is enticing enough to divert your prospect’s attention to what they’re currently doing.
Your job is to engage someone that isn’t even thinking about you. You have to interrupt potential customers long enough for them to click on your message or ad to visit your website.
You need to grab your prospects attention and send them to your squeeze pages, offers, freebies, blogs, and emails.
